Question Blue Picardy spaniel?

Anyone ever heard of them, or better still, hunted over one? Sharp looking hunting dog, but not very popular here in the states........vet says "beware of small gene pools", but I haven't been doing all that well with large gene pools as of late.
Thanks for any info...................

Mr 16 gauge

I haven't hunted the BPS,however, you piqued my interest as I'm looking to replace my Brittany( died last year). They seem to be popular in Canada and there is plenty of info if you Google.
Thanks for the question.

Having no luck finding BPS east of the Mississippi or south of the Canadian border,I decided to check out English Springer Spaniels. We now have 5 month male Springer, liver and white, good bloodlines, and hopefully a hunter of birds. Have started to train and will post pics when I can.

We had an English Springer Spaniel when we were growing up. Awesome dog. He was a good hunter too, even though my dad spent absolutely no time training him. I mean absolutely ZERO.

Post pics and let me know how things go with the new dog.

Merlin is off to trainer this past Saturday to hopefully refine his hunting skills. Trainer came highly recommended and will spend first week evaluating. If the pup will hunt I will leave him with trainer for month.

No information on this end. Sounds like a interesting breed and I bet if ya found one it would be in the high dollar mark.

ESS are great dogs, but anyone looking to get one should do their research; there are basically two 'types' of springer: show or pet stock, and field stock. Show stock tend to have heavy feathering, droopy eyes, and can be affected by a condition known as "rage', where they just take off in a biting frenzy! Field dogs, to the best of my knowledge, aren't affected by this condition.
English cockers are in the same boat: two types, one hunting & one field.
As for the blue picardy: there are breeders near me (I live in MI), but none that I have communicated with are hunters, which makes me a bit leery.
I have thought about getting another chessie, but with the health issues the last two I've had have had, I'm a bit leery of the breed.....my vet says that, generally, they are one of the healthiest of dog breeds, but aren't long lived.
Guess I'm looking for something that doesn't exist!
