2010 Shotgun News Year Resulution Broken
I resolved not buy any more guns this year, especially shotguns, well think I have a habit. I just picked up a Browning A5/3 Shot model 12, with a solid rib barrel, really nice gun. Went to a gun show yesterday and real proud of myself never bought anything, but ran into a dealer friend that has 2 just for me. One of my addictions is 16 gauges, have a bunch but not a A5 Standard or an Ithaca 37. Both are early models, already have a Sweet 16 but not a Standard. First shotgun I ever shot was my Fathers 37 Deluxe made before the War in 16 ga.. A&E has a program called Intervention may be I'm a canidate for it.

I hate it when that happens
I just picked up a pinned and recessed nickeled S&W Model 19. As I was leaving the shop, I saw a Colt 1911 Battle of the Marne Commemorative from 1968. We hagged a bit and the shop owner set it back for me. I have a Model 12 waiting for me to pick it up. I hate it when that happens. All the best...

well me too
Went into a friends shop Friday. He had an older Rem 700BDL Varmint in 6mm. It was a bit worn...mainly fron sitting in a gun rack in the back window of a pickup(yeah they still do that here). Had a cheap Simmons on it. He had 450 bucks on it..told me to make an offer. I did..300 bucks(I'm cheap) He sold it to me for 325 out the door. Cash..well I gave him a deposit of 50 bucks as that was about all I had at the time. Gonna get it tomorrow. I'm a sucker for Varmint guns..and M-12s and M-70s and S&Ws and Colts and...well you get it

And..just to tell ya...her middle name is Imelda. She has more shoes than I have guns...if ya count a pair as 2. And all this time I've been tellin her she was a lyin hussy ever time she said I was addicted. Maybe I better apologise......Nah...She's probably lyin to me bout sumpin!

Buckhunter
I took care of that years ago. Right after we got married I sold a large Winchester collection. Bought a house. Then said..when I start to buy guns again..just remember. She said something one time and I just pointed at the farm..we had upgraded the house to another house to a small farm and only owed about 3000 bucks. Shut her mouth and hasn't said a thing since. Those 63 Winchester guns I sold appreciated into a small ranch in Wyoming and a fair to middlin nest aig of cash(that Nobama wants to take). She doesn't have to work any more and she is a happy camper most of the time. I don't say anything about what she buys either..even if she has waaayyy too many shoes! Oh BTW at the time we only owed bout 3 grand on the farm..I bought another one at a farm auction. She almost had a stroke when I started bidding on the place. When our banker told me we made a great buy at the end of the auction..she was incredulous.specially when I told him I'd be in to sign all the necessary papers the next day(I had borrowed the money just before they started the auction...banking as it should be). We paid for that place in under 3 years. So momma don't say much of anything..about guns and such anyway. Now the old cars and trucks..different story. One of these days I'm gonna sell the other farm back east..or move to it if'n she gets cranky!!.

Skeet,
You are killing me. My problem is that I will not sell my guns and have to buy more safes as a result.

It's nice to know that I'm not alone. And even though I didn't get anything as nice as the afore mentioned guns I did just pick up two used shotguns. A like new H&R 12 gauge full choked gun for my live in brother-in-law and an equally nice used Mossberg 500 20 gauge with rib and screw-in chokes.
They were sitting near each other in the rack of one of our nearby shops at a nice enough price my resolve melted away! Dave |

You did good
Long as you're happy with what you pay it's a good deal. I went and picked up the 700 Varmint Monday..and today I bought an ol Mossyberg..835 wood stocked gun in the box for 250 bucks. Like I need the sucker. But thought I'd give it to my grandson. He lives in Md and will probably need it for them gooseys. I have also found an old High Standard 22 Semi auto. It's a Field King with 2 bbls. One is about 4 1/2 and the other 6 1/2 inches approx. In pretty good condition. Fellow wants 300 bucks for it. Just what I need....another High Standard. But not having looked it up in the book I know it has be worth a good bit more than $300. I missed a really nice gun..it was a Rem 722 in 257 Roberts. BUT it was a BDL grade with pretty checkered stock.. Kinda rare.
Fabs. I don't keep all the guns I buy. I keep the good ones or the hard to find ones. If I make a bit on what I sell it pays for the other stuff. I've just gone a little wild lately buying some of this stuff. In one of the boxes of stuff I got the other day was an almost complete Auto Ordnance 1911 set up for 38 Super. Even had a new Clark Custom bbl for the 38 Super. If I hadda known..I would have bought all the 38 super ammo and new primed brass at the sale. It went waaayyy cheap. The 700 Varmint is a 6mm and is a gun I will rust blue and have a friend refinish the stock on. I'll recut the pressed in checkering . Then I'll keep it and shoot it.

Skeet, sounds like you've been enjoying yourself as well. The 6mm isn't nearly as popular as it was a number of years ago but it is a very good cartridge. A brother-in-law of mine had a left handed actioned 788 years ago and it was a heck of a shooter. It did fine duty as both his whitetail and chuck rifle for a number of years. (I suppose he'd still have it today if he had married a girl that enjoyed outdoor activities instead of his current wife.......but we all make our choices.)
Enjoy your current projects by the way, sounds like a great way to pass sometime at this time of year! |

Projects
Well I have a project I'm doin right now. Momma told me I hadda clean up the vault a little. Course she was right. Finding stuff I've had for 40 yrs. Gotta get rid of some of it. I even found two handguns down there one in a cigar box the other in a blue Whiskey bag. Gonna put 'em back together and sell 'em. Got reloading stuff I'm gonna sell. ammo I have no use for..among other things. Glad there is a gun show coming up soon. Just hope I don't buy more stuff to bring home....but I know I will. Just bought an old Dunbar reloading press...like I need it. But the old stuff is made SO MUCH BETTER than the new. Heck even the junky Herter's stuff from years ago beats the new stuff made in China
BTW I have found I have more than 40 reloading presses of all sorts here...and a few back east yet

Got a Browning A5 16 ga. 30s model in a fitted Browning Hard case yesterday. A5 is in very good condition as is the fitted case. The handle needs some TLC, but the first time I ever saw a fitted case for an A 5. That makes 2 A5s this month and still11 days to go.

Well, I haven't bought any new or used firearms in about 4-5 years....I think that the last gun I bought was my 1920 commercial Luger. Anyway, changed that today....found a Remington SP310 while surfing the net last evening. It was at a local gun store, so I went to check it out and bought it. I've never owned an O/U before....this is my first one. I need a manual, which I assume I can get from Remington by writing them, but in the meantime, I was wondering if anyone can tell me what choke tubes this thing takes....the standard "Rem chokes" don't fit it.
