Day-Long Handgun Bullet Casting.

Yesterday, I did a day-long rifle bullet casting session and tomorrow I will cast a 14-quart bucket FULL of .38/.357, .41, .and .45 bullets WHILE such activity is still legal. I am down to about 400 pounds of Wheel Weight ingots, so it will be a fun day in the Tractor Shed.

I like the Kieth SWC bullets very much and cast them as much as possible. My bullets fall from the moulds into a bucket of water for a HARD Pennsylvania Bullet Quench.

Cast bullets do require an attention to detail and they do shoot very well. Who else is casting bullets these days?

Adam

At the price around here for commercial cast bullets, I think I need to start doing so. Have I missed something? Is bullet casting going to become illegal?

I think that Adam is commenting on the current political climate in Washington re: how the Obamanation (current administration) seems to get it's way on everything......it's going to be real interesting to see what happens this November, esp. if the health care bill passes. Typical D.C. types vote for what their party wants, not what the people require....that gives us half assed political solutions that don't do anything.

.....but instead of hijacking the thread , as far as casting goes, I do need to make some .44 & .30 cal bullets, but I probably won't do that until late summer/early fall. Right now I am scavaging wheel weights from the local tire shops....check out the parking lots, dumpsters, ect, but what usually happens this time of year is that I check the grass around the parking perimeter; during the winter, when they plow the snow out of the parking lots, a fair number of WW get pushed from the parking area to just the edge of the grass around the parking lot.

......too bag they aren't gold nuggets!

Went out to do a little casting

My ol SAECO bottom pour just up and died on me. The electrical cord parted at the old cord pot connection. It is an old one ya know but has worked just fine all these years. Got some new HD crimp connectors and gonna fix it up tonight.. I have almost a 1000 lbs of lead here so I guess I can make a few bullets. I have just gotten 3 Cramer type hollow point moulds for 41 44 and 45 and just gotta try 'em out. I can either cast HP or turn the pins and make SWCs. They are 2 cavity moulds so we'll see how she goes. I have to get some 30 cal GCs so I can do up my little 115 gr flat nose 30 cal bullets. Fun to shoot in the 30-30 loaded with unique. Only have about 50 or so left sized and Checked.. I can shoot them up in just a little whiole.

dovehunter,

Yes, bullet casting is still legal, for now. Reloaders and casters have "the means of production" of ammunition and I suspect "Controls" are not too far away.

"......too bag they aren't gold nuggets!'

If the Obama gang of communists get their way, they'll be worth just about as much as gold.
If my gess is anywhere near right, the dems will wait to see how the 2010 election goes. If they lose out, as we all hope they will, you can damn well bet feinstein will go balls to the wall along with Boxer, pissant pelosi and the rest of the gun grabbers and ram through Feinsteins confiscation bill. You remember, the one where she said, "If I had the votes, Mr. and Mrs. America, I'd take them all, every last one."
I'll gladly trn mine in, bullets first. They can have them when I run out.
