Reloading components update
I was in a large gun shop today and they have lots of everything in the way of powder, bullets, shot and primers (except no Winchester rifle or pistol primers). The old price structure is back in place. Now if they could get Winchester primers life would be good. Take care...

Joe
I am seeing a lot of reloading components in the shops I visit. Looks like their backorders are getting filled. All the best...

Reloading stuff
Yep they are getting the stuff back in stock again but the prices are somewhat higher or so it seems. And I can't believe the price of shot now..over 30 bucks and still going up sheesh.. When I was back east I actually got my old shotmaker and brought it out here. A guy gave me almost a half ton of magnum Lawrence BB 2 and 4 size shot. He even gave me some old Winchester Lubaloy copper plated..4's and 5's. Gonna melt her down and make shootin size stuff. BB's would be ok for close yotes though. But 10 bags is more'n enough don'cha think? Stopped at a wholesale place in Pa when back east and the only thing he didn't have was large pistol primers. They are in short supply most everywhere.

I found Winchester LR primers in a smaller shop here for $35/K ~ a month ago. They had a lot of CCI in LR, LP and some Fed 205 M SR I grabbed for $37/K.
Others have the goods but not the prices..... ![]()

Yeah prices around here still stink, but most stuff is comming back. We can get large pistol primers pretty easy, but small pistol seems to be more rare unless you want small pistol mag br.

Joe,
So WHAT if you cannot get Winchester Primers? What is SO GOOD about Winchester Primers? I have always used CCI Primers and went to Camp Perry twice and was a state pistol champion twice with CCI Primers. Maybe you just need to CROSS OVER. So what is so good about Winchester Primers??? What has Winchester Primers done for you CCI Primers cannot do BETTER? Adam

Primers
I've always kinda been a CCI fan myself. But people have brand loyalty. Had one fellow that always wanted Winchester.. He had a bad CCI once so thats the way it goes. I've had a few bad primers in shotshell loading. Worst was the old Federal but had a few Winchester too. Had a complete flat of CCI shotshell primers that for some reason didn't have an anvil. The rest of the 900 primers all went bang.. CCI sent me a certificate for whole thousand. They asked for the primers back so they could check 'em out. Very easy to deal with. I've always had good luck with Remington primers too. I have some small pistol primers from the 50's. Still good too. Got 'em from a fellow that had a S&W Highway Patrolman I bought with the Lyman 310 tong tool he got at the time he bought the gun.. Sadly he died about a month or so ago from prostate cancer. Bombardier on B-29's in WWII. Neat to talk to about it.

It depends what you prefer
I can understand brand loyalty as you seem to have for CCI. It is not a question of what is better, it is Joe's money and he can spend it as he see fit. Right? All the best...

Gil,
Right you are, "It is Joe's money", BUT it it NOT the end of the world when he cannot get Winchester primers. He can pound sand, or go reload with CCI primers and be, perhaps, better for the experience, eh, wot? Look what it did for me. LOL! Adam

How true
I am sure like the rest of us, Joe has a stash of primers of a brand he prefers. So I doubt that he has to pound sand. He was not inferring that everyone should use Winchester primers, just reporting what he observed. All the best...

Gil,
Your mention of a primer stash caused reflective thinking back to the early 1990s and the "Biodegradable Primers." Remember that rush for primers? I established my stash back then. Be well. Adam

Unless I have missed it, no one here seems to have brought up the fact that changing primer brands may alter ballistic characteristics. I too am a CCI man and normally won't use any other primers. During the crunch I had to use some Winchester primers which the (so-called) expert at the gun store said "oh these are the same as CCI!". Well they weren't! After never having experienced any problems using CCI primers with a particular load I had about 2-3 out of every five shells having punctured primers using the Winchesters. Now it was an extremely hot day and/or this may have just been a fluke but it was enough to convince me not to change any components without working up a new load from scratch.

I believe Dovehunter has hit on something - if you change primers, you really should work up the load again.
Being a supremely lazy sort, I stick with the primer brand I've been using for a given load. No question that all the major US manufacturers make excellent primers - but switching primer brands and having to re work up a load is a PIA.

Under that consideration understand that each time you change lot numbers on powder, or batch numbers of primers you should technically rework the load each time as well. . . . . Just pointing it out.
