BAR Question

Kid I work with is having some ejection on his BAR 300 Mag. So, he graced the ole gote with the rifle and a plea to "see if you can fix it"...I'm leaning toward a good cleaning....bore/chamber and action.....before I start this project, any one know of another problem I should check???????????

Dan Morris, Is the "ejection" problem about not throwing the empty out of the action or about "extracting" it from the chamber. Check that out first. The chamber may have some light rust in it. This is caused by not cleaning the chamber but only the barrel. Some folks just forget the chamber is larger than the bore and leave it with just bore cleaning. Certainly could be a problem with a 300 Winchester.

Take it apart(within reason)scrub the heck out of it and put it together. I have owned one of these for years and its fired and eject about every piece of junk I put thru it. Also sometime if the magazine is full loaded it may cause the fired shell to hang on the lst one in the clip. Try shooting it with one less round in the clip and see what happens however I bet a good scrubbing will work.

Larry, I'm betting on carbon build up around gas port......chamber is gonna get a scrubbing too.....appreciate the replys. No probs with extractor......ejector throws brass about half way out.....

Besides a good cleaning, be sure to properly lube the rifle.

Three or four times every year lads come to the local gun club with CMP Garands. They blaze away and only one lubed the Garand before firing. The other rifles GRATE like a rusty hinge because they are so dry! "Wot? This needs lubing?" they say time and again.

i saying its a cleaning problem ive had them throw shells half way out and jam before so i broke it down and cleaned it well gas port is a good bet and action had a freind who swore his bar was clean cause he cleanse them every week well clean it was and oil in the action thick as mud and gas port was gummed up i cleaned the hell out of it tell him to store it after cleaning with the barrel down those bars are testy when it comes to being clean

Tony just looked over my shoulder......matches his problems...thanks for the input...now I know where to start.

It's been my observation that quite a few 'broken' firearms miraculously recover after being given a good- and thorough- cleaning.

Hokay...took the dang thing apart.....gas piston was so carboned it was actually stickey to the feel! Put solvent and Coleman fluid on it and in it......
scrubbed and brushed every thing I could......lubed parts and reassembled...to me, it is now like butter. Oh, the penny that fell out of the innerd wasn't helping..LOL
If Tony wants this done better, he can take it to a gunsmith.

Thanks for the suggestions....he was not understanding the principle of a gaser...
