Help! bolt extractor won't let go

Hey all....getting ready for rifle season in a month...checking out my rifles. Stumbled on a problem...

My 30-.30 Marlin 336's bolt extractor won't let go of the case it pulls outa the chamber....turning it into a one shot rifle.

Any ideas how I can remedy this without sending it to a smith?

On a 336, the extractor will hold the case rim until the ejector kicks the case out. Check and make sure your ejector is in place and working properly - it's easy to have the ejector drop out when you remove the bolt to clean the rifle. You will have to remove the bolt to check it- the ejector is on the left side of the action, and held in place by the bolt.

Jack,

I think you nailed the problem. The ejector just resides in the left side of the action and the bolt holds it in place. If it is not missing, it may be broken and thus not doing its job.

Sorry I took so long to get back.

Thanks for the replies. You nailed the prob. Don't know what happened to it.

Shouldn't have a prob getting a replacement before rifle season.

Thanks again.

Isn't it nice when you find the problem "Before."

Yeah...I always check my gear before season...always. My new heavy duty bear proof ejector made it the house the night before rifle season opened.

Two thumbs up to everyone.

Now...if only the deer will cooperate.
