Smoothbore & roundball question....

For those of you who hunt with a smooth bore and patched round ball:

How do you load your guns? Do you just dump your powder charge, then seat the patched ball on top of the powder.......or do you drop your powder charge and then follow it with a cardboard overpowder wad, followed by a fiber wad, followed by the ball and then topped with a thin over shot (or in this case, over ball) wad?

I've done some reading and found both methods listed.

Mr. 16 gauge,

I have hunted with a smoothbore .50 flinter for 30 years. I use shot and wads for small game. For deer, I drop 75 grains of 2F Goex down the muzzle, then a patched .50 RB and go hunting. I have fine accuracy to 75 yards with patched ball and it has been al I ever needed in PA.
