road trip
headed to CA this weekend to help my daughter move to LA (for the record, Dad is NOT handling this too well ) Its a long drive but we'll try to make the most of it.
So if you see a Focus loaded to the max westbound. Might wanna stay outta the way since the ole man driving is having a bit of trouble seeing clearly for some reason

My daughter is only 3 years old and I am already worrying about stuff like that. Is she moving over there for college? Whereabout in LA? I have cousins in Huntington Beach and Newport Beach which is outside of LA. They own three restaurants called Roman Cucina in those parts.
Good luck with the drive and great choice on the car. We bought a 2010 Focus and love it to death. I like it so much I want to buy another one.

relocation for career
she just graduated from MSU ( nursing school ) and is specializing in geriatric critical care. UCLA Medical Center is the lucky target. For some odd reason she has wanted to live in CA since she was 5 yrs old. She never even visited there until a couple years ago.
Her fiance-to-be is stationed at the LA Officers AFB since he graduated this summer. Guess the CA fires, mudslides, rain and earthquakes werent enough to scare her away The focus is a good commuter car but since Im used to a 3/4 ton Yukon XL I'm not looking forward to a cross country jaunt in the Ford As our one and only, I always knew that I'd be giving her away someday. I just didnt realize that I'd have to hand deliver her across the country in the process

I'm luck. One lives 1 mile that way and the other lives 1 mile this way. I haven't had to face a long way yet. Suspect they might have to face Papa and Grandma moving further away when I retire for real.

Yeah, it sucks that she is going to me moving so far away. My parents got lucky and we all stayed in this area. Albeit, some of us are 30+ minutes away from my parents and some of us are just down the road. My wife's parents have the opposite issue. They are in Florida and one of their daughters is here with me, the other is living in Manhattan, and their son is interviewing for residency positions as an ER surgeon at places along the east coast, with the closest to them being North Carolina.

You have been talking about retirement for 10 years now. I'll believe that you are retired for "real" when I finally see it. So, your kids aren't going to have to worry about you moving anywhere anytime soon. LOL

Fabs,
I done it twice and retirement just didn't work out. Got bored. Living 24/7 with my wife is shall we say difficult. I do believe this time it will be for real. I may work part time at something fun but no more finance director in my future. Maybe a greeter at Walmart or something like that. Iam planning some trips with some mad money I have saved. I have a few hunting trips lined up also. Who know after the shooting in AZ we will probably have no more guns in our future. |

Glad to hear the drive out was un-eventful and that LA doesn't have you completely scared. Try Manhattan if you want to be scared. I've been there all of three times and each time I wanted to head back home right away. Long Island I can deal with.

FIJI, your trip makes me want to pull out my old Jerry Jeff Walker album and crank up "LA Freeway". That would be a good song to crank up in the Focus on your way back East.
Your daughter will be fine, young folks are tough & smart, it's a great time in her life.

not too bad...but too crowded
hit Rodeo dr yesterday so the wife and daughter could window shop. We even ran into (literally) one of the stars of Glee which made my daughter's day !
It must rain botox and silicone out here ! Spent today starting the DMV-insurance-registration nightmare. MAN do they have a screwed up system We're flying back on Sun and my next work trip will be driving to the Bronx, DC, VT, ME and Quebec so I'll be back in snow soon enough. Was nice to sit by the pool today.

Well, If you do not like her living in LA, do not worry. If she marries a USAF Officer, she will be out of there in fairly short order. They do not stay in one place to long and a new officer is on a hot rock, jumping from here to there, for a while.
