Lever guns for Africa?

I'm curious if anyone had done it or seen it done.....I'm talking medium cartridges such as the .30/30, .32 Win. Special, .35 Remington, .45-70, ect. I realize that these rounds don't have the range as some of the more 'modern' rounds, but it seems to me that if one was patient, and more interested in the stalk than the kill, the guns/cartridges listed would be suitable for some species.
Then again, I know that some countries forbid certain types of rifles, such as sporting or military style autoloaders. I also know that some countries have a minimum energy requirement.
.....and while were on the subject, what about bringing sidearms to Africa, if for no other reason to ward off snakes and two legged varmints?

Since I was a child of the '60s, I guess I watched to much T.V., esp. and old series called "Cowboy in Africa"

Seems to me the 45-70 would be suitable for some game

Leverguns in Africa has been done. I've seen a few articles in magazines about guys using the 45-70. I think Doug Turnbull took one of his big bore wildcats to Africa, too- dunno the details.

Grayghost;
could you be a little more specific? I tried googling "Doug Turnbull" and I got: a lacrosse player, a science fiction writer, a couple of business owners & entrepenuers.....but nothing that would lead me to believe a PH or other hunter.

Thanks..................

Doug Turnbull is a gunsmith who specializes in color case hardening- done the old fashioned way, and leverguns.

Also, the 2006 August Sports Afield issue had an article by Edmund Lewis with him using a Win .405 for lion in Africa...

One of my African outfitters hosts a lever gun safari each year. He guides a group of hunters who only shoot lever guns. They have a lot of success but then the area is loaded with game.
