Thumbs up German Resturant Montgomery Texas review

Just back from a whirlwind tour of Texas, visited a few relatives, etc. Just outside of Montgomery Texas on 105 we ate at the most awesome place I have eaten at in a very long time, www.kaiserhofusa.com go for the spaten optimater (Amber German Double Bock), the jagerschnitzel(upgrade to the veal it's worth every bite), and the house dressing. My wife recommends the potato soup very highly, and she liked the weinerschnitzel (pork as served) Their German Rye was great, if they only carried a good black bread I would move in and pay rent.

If you are in the area give it a try, but remember to make a reservation, you will need it.

Good Stuff

I too, was there with GoodOlBoy, for the good stuff. The Rye Bread was good and fresh, and from what the waitress said the food is freshly prepared.

I had the Creamy Potato Soup (just thick enuff with the potato's, ham and vegetables diced small, so you can get several pieces in each spoon full and topped with a sprinkle of chesse), it should be noted that GoodOlboy and his better half took turns using the Rye Bread to sop up the last of the soup in her bowl. I wished I'd had done that as well.

Next followed the House Salad and the House dressing (just slightly sweet version of a ranch flavor).

The main course was Jagerschnitzel (Veal of course) although one member of our party gave me a taste of her Pork Loin Jagerschnitzel, which was very good in its on right. The mushrooms were plentiful and the gravy just thick enuff to make scraping the last drop worthwhile.

After trying a taste of the Spaten Otimater that GoodOlBoy was drinking (I liked the flavor of that one by the way) I decided on trying a darker ale than GoodOlBoy, a Dunkel Warsteiner Premium. This is a very smooth and dark ale, with a slightly smoke flavor. Very good with no afterbite.

All in all the Kaiserhof European Restaurant (rated by others at 4 1/2 stars) is an excellent dining experience. The waiting staff was excellent and friendly. It was like walking into the guest houses in Germany that I remember from my younger days in the Army, the ambiance, decor and atmosphere was like those guest houses over there.

As an afterthought, the food tasted clean, that was stated by GoolOlBoy the night of our visit and I agree wholeheartedly. I think if I had a vote I would vote it to be a 5 star.

Well..... what about the kraut, red cabbage and fried potatoes? Huh? No self respecting German would be without those three staples. If the Germans do not know how to do anything else (of course they know how to do plenty) they do know how to eat very well.

I have a date at a German restaurant in Tulsa in April that I understand is awesome. We shall see. I do like good German food and ate a few meals when we were at Ramstein a few years back, visiting the daughter and her husband.

Oh the Jaergerschnitzel had fried potatos with it and I can honestly say they were the best I have eaten in a LONG time. Crispy pan fried on the outside, cooked just right on the inside with a little onion. (Like Creek taters) We didn't get around to the kraut and red cabbage or the brautens, but next time we are going to split a sampler plate to go with everything else.

GOB and bulletpusher,

Thanks for the report on fine German cuisine. Macht viel Spass! It has been too long since I dined on German Lebensmettle und Bier. I did have two weeks in Germany and Austria and determined I like German food, beer, music and women; not necessarily in that order.

Thanks again for the fine report.

Good to hear there's some places in the new world that put out a good meal. From my scattered visits over the years to USA the most difficult thing to do is find the atmosphere that is so common in almost every Gasthaus over here. Glad you enjoyed it!

Just an everyday meal for me, Rumpsteak with Bratkartoffeln, the Pils is in the glass at the top of the plate, can't forget that , Waidmannsheil, Dom.
