Packing new heat this year!
Forgot to post this here!
But 2 weeks ago i had my new CVA Optima .50cal come in. I already have one, but i drew an out of state " NM " muzzle loading tag and so i wanted the thumbhole stock version and so i ordered it, set it up with a Konus Pro 3-10x44 scope and shes ready to go. Trigger breaks crisp and clean at 2lbs. I really have been impressed with the thumbhole stock as most rifles tend to lift their barrels up in the air when fired off the knee, but this one handles is really darn good and puts the recoil straight back into your shoulder. She shes 100 and 110gr Blackhorn209 equally well with the 250gr Aerolite Powerbelts @ 100 yards. I need to stretch out to 200 yards and give her some hell before September 24th rolls by. But here she is in all her beauty LOL. My go to load of 110gr Blackhorn209, CCI 209 Magnum primers, 250gr Powerbelt Aerolite, 3 shots @ 100 yards. No trouble at all getting her to group right out of the box. www.FrontierMuzzleloadin.powerguild.net

Up to this year our F&G have not allowed break open M/L's. However I found out yesterday that we will now be allowed to us them during the regular ML season. They have some administrative stuff to do but they should be fine for this year.
I'm sort of POed at Thompson Center and am looking at the APEX with the idea in mind to get a 223 barrek for it. Anybody have any comments about the APEX. |

that is a really nice gun and the groups are redic. one thing, im curious did you draw an elk or deer tag. i dont want to open a can of worms but if its elk you may find that a jacketed bullet will work a bit better than the plated power belt. dont get me wrong i love the things for deer but i have seen a handful that hit the shoulder of a deer and completely come to pieces. it should be mentioned that the deer always have dropped in their tracks and had rediculous amounts of damage done to them. but the pb was in pieces well before making it halfway into body. just for thought thats all. other wise groups like that are worth every penny you spent. (the load i speak of is 245gr aerotip ahead of 130gr of pyrodex)

mule deer. I will be videoing this hunt from the start at the shooting range to show how it shoots, how its done and then the hunt itself. Basically a detailed review of how the bullet does as well if i get lucky.
