Thumbs up My 8 yr old's buck

So my boy is at it again. Killing his first buck at age 6 under PA's Mentored Youth program, he just smacked his second buck at age 8. Last year he hunted hard every day of rifle season, but I could never seem to get him in front of a buck for a good shot. Making him put out some good grades in 2nd grade, he earned his own crossbow at $5 an "A". I figured it would be easier on him to hunt during archery season, instead of having to deal with our harsh weather during rifle season. He practiced quite a bit this summer and layed the smack down on this buck at 40 yards yesterday. He picked out the biggest of 3 bucks that were in front of us and closed the deal.

Special thanks to big_brother and ol_spark to help on the retrieval of his 2nd buck in 3 years of hunting.

Here's a couple pics of the happy hunter and the retrieval crew!

Thanks all. He sure is pumped about it. Just got him cut up last night and the jerky will be marinating tonight! Now off to get my 6 yr old daughter one. Her mother is livid and wants her to be a princess forever, but se loves to sit in the stand with dad. Hopefully I can put a buck in front of her now!

Awesome to see your kids out there with you! It's kind of funny that your little girl is all ramped up about going hunting while mom isn't too thrilled... Hopefully success will keep her out there a long time. Good luck getting her on a deer!

Congrats to your son on a great deer! Those are great times, and better memories you'll have for the rest of your life!

Plenty of does in my neck of the woods. My boy shot his doe with this .223 shooting 53 gr Barnes TSX handloads. Made a fine shot, she ran 60 yards and piled up. The bullet did an awesome number on her. Number 3 for this 8 year old! My kids are unbelievable

Petey,

Congradulations. If you have any extra deer, live trap them and release them here. Merry Christmas.
