So. Wis. Opening Week.

Well it got into the 60s at night, hit 80 a couple of days, beautiful sunrises. Took about bluebird days, lotsa dragon flies, skeeters and the last of the migrating Monarchs. Closed this week, opens again next Sat.

Our opening day was last Saturday (10/8)...I usually can't wait for the opener, but I passed this year. Too hot, and the past few years have seen more and more boats on the little lake that I usually hunt. It has officially no longer become fun and is more of a hassle than anything else. I went out squirrel hunting on the 7th, and flushed a lot of wood ducks....I counted 25 in one group, and there were still more getting off the pond that I didn't get to count. Flushed a large group of teal (probably blue wings), and the water levels seem to be up in just about all the areas I checked.
I won't be able to get out again until the end of this month....that's fine; the opening weekend morons will be through, and hopefully there will be a few migrants working this way south that will stop over (permanently!)

Good luck with your season, Popplecop....keep us posted.

Can't say you missed a lot. Hunt a private marsh and flowage so don't have to worry about others. Still quite a few BW teal, even saw a flock of widgeon, lotta geese. Son and I went squirrel hunting last Wed. each got one, saw more, but way to much ground clutter and leaves. Going north next week on a grouse and woodcock hunting trip, but when I get back going after squirrels again. Love sitting with one of my .22s and scanning the tree tops.
