Shooting Times Article on the Mauser 98

I read the article entitled "Why The Mauser Isn't So Great" by Reid Coffield in the March 2012 issue. The author seems to ramble a bit and then makes a few meaningless comments about the shortcomings of the '98 Mauser. In closing he states that he ..." I still love my Mausers." I am glad that after 114 years someone finally told us about some faults with the '98 Mauser. It is articles like the one referenced above that have caused me to let most of my gun magazine subscriptions expire. All the best...

I read the article

Usually I skip over shallow or useless articles. Take care...

Heck all firearms have some kind of faults..including the mauser..and it's derivatives..such as the 03 Springfield..But does that mean they are not good serviceable firearms?? No of course not..Even my beloved pre 64 Win 70s had a fault or two..and they were a derivative of the Mauser too. I actually have a Mauser or two...and a couple of 03s...but the Mausers have been made into useful rifles and the one 03 is an A4..and I won't do anything with it...The other 03 was also made into a useful rifle. One day I will find an original scope for the A4. The 1909 Argentine Mauser is a 35 Whelen..and a pretty rifle. Accurate too.

I don't read many magazines any more..just another advertising gimmick for the manufacturers. Everything they make is great..according to the authors

Your right, most articals are crap. I only subscribe to one magizine and I only subscribe so I can see what is new. Usually claimed to be the best since sliced bread. When the professional elk hunters started claim that a 06 too small for elk and the expert deer hunter claimed a 30-30 was inadicate that pretty much did it for me. Yes Iam a member of the OFC and just about seen it all.

All of you, Are you saying that you think the magazine writers are lying to you on occasion? They would never lie; maybe stretch the truth a bit, or only tell a little of the truth. Don't tell me this is a new sensation. My world is crumbling!
