Big Woods Treks...

It is a mild February here in northcentral PA, so old dog and I took a trek. I got the .50 smoothbore flinter off the rack, put in 75 grains of 2F Goex, same powder measure amount of #6 shot and primed the pan.

Halfway up the hill out back we had a crow fly over at low altitude. He/she is my 5th flintlock shotgun crow. Old dog retrieved the crow which I promptly burried under the leaves. We reloaded and trekked on. We saw no other critters on our 3 mile trek in the Big Woods.

Lori is ready for the trek tomorrow. I will take a percussion 12 gauge single barrel on a T/C Hawken platform in case we see prokys on Upper Field. The woods are silent in Winter. We did see three does and they still call this old farm their home.

Sounds like you had a successful Trek. Those crows had better look out. What a grand winter this has been, it's feb 3rd and there is no snow on the ground here at home.

Johnny Reb,

It was 58 degrees and sunny on January 31, 2012. I shot rifles that day in the hayfield. It is 35 degrees and cloudy today, so old dog and I will trek with the 12 gauge ML.
