Some stuff is coming into the pipeline
I was lookin on the Cabela's site a few days ago and lo and behold they had Hornady 55 gr FMJ W/Cannelure..in stock at a reasonable price..so I ordered 10 boxes. 5 for me and five for a friend. and ordered 4 boxes of 250 55 gr V max bullets. In stock and on the way. Also got some 44 copper plated HPs 240 gr. I have a bunch of 44s to load. I was also in a local Sporting Goods store and got a lb of H4895..They had 8 lb IMR 4895 but I like the H variety better..Loads almost everything. Have gotten some H380 H335 H414 in 8 lb containers. I like the H414..it works great in many calibers. It is just the same powder as WW 760 but for some reason it is less expensive than Winchester. I even saw Large and small rifle primers in the store..but they were not cheap..and I really do not need them. 22 ammo is still in very short supply. Well maybe one day it will be back to normal..but the prices, of course, are going to be higher..much higher I fear

Skeet, I talked to a wholesaler this morning and he said they are getting bullets in and getting restocked. Said the ammo is still stupid, still being hoarded and gone as soon as it comes in. S&W is slow but once in awhile. He said forget Ruger;backordered so far they have no idea when something will show up.

Hey Larry. Yep powder is comingh on line a bit better. Cabela's etc are still backordered but not on all things. My wholesale guys back east are getting stuff..but not in the normal quantities. Ruger is so back ordered on 10-22s it isn't funny. 2 years worth. Dillon is catching up. and I am seeing a bit of 223 ammo here and there. Local farm store had some today. I do not need to buy any.. Hey just bought another gun today..well 2 or 3 4 I guess. The neatest one was a BSA made Martini 310 Cadet..but it was a bbld action. no stock r forend. If I want to make it into another caliber..how hard is it to rebarrel or Re-bore..maybe 357 Rem Max?? Will it fit the action? Not here yet..on the way from Delaware tomorrow.....but the price was RIGHT I think. 75 bucks..delivered

Stupid idiots still hoarding
I watch a Firearms auction site out of Michigan. The idiots are still paying rediculous prices for 22 ammo. $85+ for 550 bricks.
The little sports shop I frequent finaaly got some 22 lr in. His whosale cost went up a whopping 35 cents from what it was before all this stupidity started. I hope the idiots enjoy the over priced stuff they have bought |

It does seem to loosing up a little except for 22 cal. Ordered a Marlin 1894 in 44 Mag last week. Going to be interesting to see how long it takes to arrive.

Skeet,
You want to sell that Cadet? I am serious. BP guns can just be shipped and all Cadets are BP guns. The only hard part is doing the first one and figuring out what has to be done with the one you have. But there is a lot of hand work in the Cadet, before you get it finished. You could have the barrel bored and rifled, but just re-barreling it with a 1-14 twist 16 or 18 inch .357 or .358 would probably be faster if you do the shaping of the barrel's chamber end by hand. I was at a gun auction the other day. Only bought a Marlin 336..rest went waaayyy too high. And a 5000 round case of Rem Thunderbolts sold for..get this...900 bucks. Fools..well it was an older lady who bought the bullets for her grandkids..so they would have ammo to shoot. Fools Ed I have had a LOT of people tryin to buy that action.. I didn't realize they were so popular..Haven't decided yet.. Oh and another neat little acquisition ..I bought a really nice Mauser HSc in 380..Paid a bit much at 350..but I happen to have about a 1000 rounds of ammo for one and found at least that many pieces of brass in the vault last night

Ok, well I thought I would give it a try as I know a bit about building them. This is the article I wrote about building the gun you are thinking about; The 357 Max Rifle:

Skeet, On rebarrel job on the Martini, think small. You can go standard with either 22 Hornet or 218 Bee. A barrel of fun and you don't have to play extractor games. Remember that original is a rimmed cartridge, the same as a 32-20. The barrel is oversize for a 32-20 or that would be a great way to go. I have one of those in the cabinet that I haven't decided what to make it into. I have a 20 caliber octagon barrel and have thought of a .20 Killer Bee or a 20 on the Fireball case. Lots of ways to go.

Larry,
I have a few, a 218, two 357 supers, a 225 but the real fun gun is the 222R. You can get an Aussie to send you some brass. It is a 222 Remington with a rim that just happens to be the same size as a 38 spl / 357. You reload it with 222 dies and a 357 shell holder. It was designed specificly for the Cadet. The 225 is the largest case diameter that will work in the Cadet barrel shank. I wanted to build one to see how it would work, it worked fine. The little Bee would be pretty cool but the 221 version would require a hinged, spring loaded leg on one side of the extractor at least. There is a drawing design for the extractor on record or at least there was one. The extractor / ejector is about the only part that needs to be purchased unless you have a lot of time on your hands. But it is easy to open it up and to weld if you need to close it up. It is a part that is rarely found even to purchase, at any price. When you get to high pressure rounds you must put a bushing in so that the firing pin hole is reduced from its original BP requirement. At the same time the firing pin diameter must be reduced with a shoulder created that stops on the block and not the bushing. The little Martini has a very fast lock time so with a good trigger it is or can be very accurate. Ed
