22 blanks?
Does anybody know a reliable source (online) for 22 blanks? I am looking for some for my grandmother for my grandfather's old blank pistol. Only place I find them is cheaper than dirt, and they want more for shipping than they do the blanks.

You mite try looking under track supplies as these usta be used in event starting, Just a thought.

GOB, you might also try a fastener supply store for Ram Shot supplies, they and the Remington Ramset low velocity tool use 22 blanks to drive fastener pins into concrete. Just look for the lowest velocity cartridges since you just need noise.

You know
I was thinking the same thing Ed. I've never checked if they fit a 22 chamber though. I will do that today I get 'em all the time in box lots at farm auctions etc.

For some reason I am not getting an email about a response, so forgive the late response.
When I owned a building supply / hardware company I had 3 or 4 of the Ram-shot tools, never had a Remington low velocity Ramset piston tool. But I found this long drawn out thread on thehighroad.com about them, of course no one realized that they were talking about two entirely different tools. As typical half did not even understand that a blank in an open barrel basically has no pressure unless a pin is present. They thought a blank would blow up a gun..... Anyway, several said they will chamber in a 22 LR chamber and several said no, but it sure sounded like the no folks had no clue about anything either. Now I did see that the Remington tool uses conventional blanks, star crimped to a point. I know that the Ram-shot (I hope I have the name right) used carded blanks with a shot shell style roll crimp over. They also came in 22, 22 mag, 25 and 32 as I recall. The high velocity tool has a big square like bottom as a safety feature (against blow back) while the Remington just has the end of the barrel. I think both have to have the nose depressed to fire. I know the high velocity gun does for sure. I will look tonight to see if I have some light loads, but it still will not do much good except to see if they chamber. Ed

Ok, checked the Ram-Shot tool cartridges (paper cup with roll crimp) and they will fit a 22 LR chamber just like a 22 cartridge. The box has a caution stating that :"These cartridges must not be used in a firearm." That is probably where the statements I read about, being afraid to shoot them in a gun came from. Of course, no projectile, no pressure, as these things are powder driven not nitro detonation. Plus the little chamber insert for the gun itself is about 1/8 inch thick steel inserted in a smooth bore barrel about 1/8 thick. Now the bore is about 38 cal to accommodate the front plastic fins and the rear round head of the nail or pin as it is properly called.
The price marked on the box, from my store was $10.50 per 100 and is a Green load which is a #3 of #1-6 for brass, with nickel going on up from a #7 to a #12 , #12 is the highest pressure 22 LR load for a high velocity gun. The #3 is a light load and is what I suggested you look for. It is stated by some in that thread I mentioned that the powder is corrosive, however there is not one bit of evidence of this on the 70s vintage cartridges in this box I examined. Ed
