Buyback of military arms
About 20 years ago I sold a surplus Browning Hi Power and an unissued SKS to a coworker. We became good friends and enjoyed shooting military arms. Strangely, he never fired the Browning or the SKS. Yesterday, he sold them back to me because he did not shoot them (he has a good collection of other arms). I gave him a fair and current price for these guns and they are now back home. It is funny how things work out. All the best...

Gil,
Was that a Russian or Chinese SKS? What are the FN particulars? What are the "current prices?" In the late 1960s, while in college under the G.I. Bill, I did sell a couple guns to friends with the "buy back" provision. Like you, I was able to get back my FN and 1911 a few years later. Now with all the PA Gas Money, I have no desire to buy any more guns. I just want to live long enough to wear out all the guns on the heap. Adam

Gil,
So WHAT was the "fair market value" of those guns? Last week I appraised an old (deceased) WWII Veteran's heap of guns, gear and uniforms. The widow asked me to "make an offer" as she did not want to be bothered with a lengthy yard sale, etc. I made a bid, she accepted, and I wonder if your "buy back" was better than my bid? Be well Adam

I made an offer and it was accepted. All the best...

Gil,
Duly noted you never mentioned prices, so why did you "Open the Bidding?" If I was writing a novel, I would skip this chapter and made it a mystery, eh, wot? LOL! I paid fair market value of $2,000 for my truck load of stuff. I am still sorting and have much stuff to make into sporters. All M98 actions are Matching as is the nice M24 FN action that will become a 7X57MM sporter. Be well. Adam

Sounds like you did OK
If you plan to make those rifles and actions into sporters, you will just need to find a competent gunsmith. All the best...

Gil,
There is a very competent gunsmith in Wellsboro and another just over the hill from my farm. The local rebarreled a M1903 Mark1 last year. He also is an expert on M98 actions. Adam
