Protect your Hearing!

I will repeat what I tell my handgun classes. If you have never shot your protection handgun or shotgun INSIDE your home, be advised the repercussion will render you STONE Deaf! I tell my students to shoot one-handed and place the Weak hand over that side ear. After the defensive shooting, they will still have 50% Hearing and will be able to use a phone, hear responding police or hear the other Bad Guys breaking in through side windows or doors of their home.

Very few homeowners wear ear protectors 24/7, so I suggest Covering the Weak Side Ear BEFORE firing your defensive firearm. If there is enough time, I further suggest covering the Weak side ear, AND Rolling up the strong side shoulder to cover the strong side ear. Yes, that requires rolling your head to one side to shoot, but at 12 to 15 feet INSIDE your home, you ought to be able to hit a man-size target none the less.

For any Nay Sayers for this Technique, may I suggest you go to an old barn or shed and FIRE your handgun WITHOUT ear protection and be convinced.

Dan,

Yes, I remember Uncle Sam issued us COTTON wadding on the covered firing points where we shot M1 Carbines in 1962. I can hear "crickets in December" to this day.....

Seriously, I told my dentist (an avid shooter and home defender) just last week about covering at least one ear in gravest extreme. He was stunned that no one had ever mentioned such a procedure during his prior home firearms defense classes.

Yea, Yea: It is the old dog, new trick thing I suppose.

muledeer,

Many thanks for the kind reply. I tell my handgun class students the same thing.
