Looks like Bass Pro bought Cabela's for 5.5 billion.

Dan,

I am just an old farmer and cannot see why Bass Pro Shop HAD to buy Cabela's. I see where both could have just gone on and on as sporting goods stores. This MEGA Monopoly Game of Buy Outs, Hostile Take Overs and such like escapes my limited understanding.

The big box stores are overpriced. There is a local Cabelas in Hamburg, PA and they have a policy of marking up used firearms they take in by fifty percent of the acquisition cost. As a result one can often find used guns priced higher than a new one of the same make and model sitting on the new rack. I know a few folks that work at the store and the gunsmith who works on their firearms. Even with their employee discounts most used guns are too expensive. Cabelas has not hurt the local gun shops that I visit. All the best...
